I miss writing and the freedom to express myself on a variety of topics, so I’ve decided to try republishing here from time to time. The old-timers will remember…
In 2024, it seems that LinkedIn has gradually decided to monetize its investment by drastically reducing post reach.
From a personal account, it used to be relatively easy to get several thousand views, but this possibility seems to have disappeared, much to my despair.
For reasons I can’t explain, only a few accounts still seem to have the ability to generate likes and views.
No doubt the tone plays a role, as does the subject and the target audience, but post-hacking techniques are no longer effective. And the truth has finally emerged for me… LinkedIn no longer wants its platform to be a free place for notoriety: you have to pay. Which seems logical from a business perspective. You create the product, you create traffic, and at some point, you make people pay.
Quite disheartening, because the further we advance in this digital world, the harder it is to find free spaces of freedom to express oneself and gain recognition.
The wild early days of the web seem well and truly over… but no doubt that will seem obvious to you.
Of course, this isn’t set in stone… and younger generations have largely benefited from the rise of TikTok which, without a doubt, will also make people pay up, if it isn’t already the case (I don’t know, I don’t use TikTok).
In short, all this to say that wild, free communication seems well and truly over, unless you want to spout insanities on X.com, which seems destined to end up as a madhouse… I would have a lot to say about that, by the way.
Sad or not, I don’t know… but I would tend to tell myself that I could have enjoyed a kind of mini golden age that only lasted a few years, from the late 90s to the 2010s, when things on the Web still seemed quite joyful, freestyle, without too many mercantile calculations… which no longer seems to be the case at all today.
Good evening!
