Is the future of generative AI through sexbots? For Wired, the cult US magazine from Silicon Valley, while the entire generative AI industry could collapse in a speculative bubble, sexbots will remain.
I don’t know if this vision is serious or realistic, but I discovered another world. Unsurprisingly, deep down, of course, an entire industry has been built on the world’s oldest business.
Virtual girlfriend, virtual inflatable doll, virtual prostitute, sexbot – with generative AI, anything is possible, there are no limits, except the size of one’s wallet. And since the big tech players wrap themselves in veils of virtue and consistently refuse to engage in the sex trade, many small companies are profiting from the most primal instinct of the male gender.
And in a way, it’s almost a dream. A very pretty girlfriend, tailored to one’s tastes, available 24/7, ready to fulfill all fantasies. The dream, it seems, of many men or, at least, their preferred substitute. The female gender will appreciate it. Perhaps it’s better for some to settle for these virtual relationships. But perhaps others should face reality a bit more.
And if you ask me, no, I haven’t shelled out 14 euros a month for a subscription to try the experience and give you a detailed report. I know one has to « get their hands dirty » for the sake of information, but for the same price, I can get a burger at Big Fernand. It doesn’t replace sex, but it’s just as good. (no, this post is not sponsored by Big Fernand).
But I was lying to you when I said that the big tech players refused to use sex as a means of making money. At least two have not given up on it.
First, there’s Grok, by Elon Musk, which has never hidden its willingness to let its AI generate anything and everything, including male fantasies about women (and even much less avowable fantasies).
And there should soon be OpenAI. The creator of ChatGPT will most likely launch a chatbot dedicated to this during the first half of 2026. While Sam Altman seeks to appoint an ethics officer for ChatGPT (after cheerfully trampling all good rules in this area), sex does not seem to be a dirty word for him and his shareholders: it should quickly be possible to have hot hot hot conversations with ChatGPT. « Mhhhhhh, have you seen my big prompt? » « Oh yes, oh yes, show me your tokens. » It’s going to be « spicy »!
Wired, of course, questions the ethical issues of such debauchery, but without naivety: eroticism (let’s call it that gently) has always been the backbone of public computer networks, from Minitel (who remembers the famous 3615 Ulla that made all 80s teenagers fantasize without ever being able to access it? At 60 francs an hour, it curbed the desire of more than one.) to today’s pornographic portals, which the French State, with the efficiency that always characterizes it, has partially succeeded in prohibiting for those under 18 (well, those under 18 who don’t know what a VPN is… they must be counted on the fingers of one hand).
What do I think of this use of AI? What do you want us to think? It’s nothing new. And it will always continue. Perhaps it’s even better to channel heterosexual male appetites into supervised uses than to let them appropriate the tools themselves without control and without rules. It will always be better than letting certain boors amuse themselves by undressing their girlfriend or partner photographed at a party without her consent. Seriously, what an idea! It amazes me as much as dickpics. I’ve never understood this need some have to share a photo portrait of their genitals. Yet it’s not the most aesthetic organ of male anatomy.
Alright, I’ll leave you now. I’m going to eat my burger (still an unsponsored article, I swear) and think about more important problems, like the inalienable right to fries in the cafeteria or the defense of cats’ rights to have mouse-flavored kibble. Have a good day!
